Baba-Nyonya Heritage Museum
The attractive Baba-Nyonya Heritage Museum is a replica of a typical
19th-century Peranakan residence. Visitors can view the unique heirloom and heritage at the private museum,
located in a traditional townhouse in Chinatown.
This museum, run
by the Babas and Nyonyas of Melaka themselves, gives visitors a chance to learn more about their interesting
culture, which is a mix of Chinese and Malay. The Baba-Nonya are a result of intermarriage between early
Chinese settlers and local Malays.
Its furniture consists of Chinese hardwoods with influences of Chinese,
Victorian and Dutch designs. The museum also displays ceramic designs from China, which were made
specifically for the Chinese. The public can visit from Mondays to Saturdays, excluding public
holidays.
